For those of you who are looking for resources in town for you and your families, or to volunteer, look no further. Check out #StocktonStrong  and the resources/opportunities happening right now in the city of Stockton. 

This website was created by Mayor Michael Tubbs' team. The site features a letter from the Mayor himself to the city reassuring citizens by saying, "Already, our city has taken action to protect our residents, adopting a two month moratorium on residential evictions and creating a $1,235,000 Coronavirus Emergency Response Fund. Our nonprofit partners are working as hard as ever to deliver critical resources and have established a number of volunteer operations and emergency funds" and ending with the hashtag #stocktonstrong. 

The website features resources for a variety of issues that people may be facing during the pandemic:
  • Food Insecurity 
  • Adult/Child Education
  • Lack of Income 
  • Small Business Funding
  • Questions/news regarding COVID-19 in the San Joaquin County
The site also has a volunteer survey for those of you who are willing to assist the city in any way. On the program's Instagram and Twitter pages (@stktnstrong) they both listed a need for tutors for students, so I made sure to sign myself up to offer some help to the community!

If you can, I definitely recommend volunteering or promoting the account on your social media pages. The city is making an effort to help those in need, let's make sure that those people know what type of resources are out there.

A colleague once shared on Facebook a graphic that said, "Students have to Maslow before the can Bloom." This is in reference to the Bloom's Taxonomy of Verbs learning model and the theory of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. Damage Control: Higher Education Higher education is an education beyond high school. It is often seen as a necessity to advance in the job market, however this is hard to do when university tuition continues to become more and more unaffordable. Today a student came up to me, frustrated and confused. She recently got accepted into University of the Pacific and told me she received her financial aid package. "Why the f*** do they want me to pay $27,000 to go to this school? I told them my parental contribution would be $0 and they told me that I can do monthly payments. What was the point of them accepting me if I can't even afford it? F*** UOP, man." Meanwhile, another student today told me all excited that she got into Sac State. Opening Ceremony with Changeist

What’s happenin’, y’all?  Today was Opening Ceremony for Changeist , which meant that friends and families of the youth, as well as anyone who supports the organization, were invited to discover what Changeist really is.  Changeist is an organization founded by Mario Fedelin in Los Angeles almost ten years ago. The mission of the organization is to get youth involved with social issues. The foundation graphic of the organization can be found below. The youth involved, or the Changeists, end up completing over 100 hours of community service through the program. They are encouraged to make their city a better place.
